Potty Training for Special Needs Children: Simple Steps
Step-by-Step Schedule Potty Training
1. Set a Goal: Aim for 6 toilet visits per day. Start with short visits and gradually increase to 10 minutes.
2. Don’t Ask, Tell: Directly tell your child it’s time to use the toilet. Don’t wait for them to ask.
3. Stick to a Schedule: Plan toilet trips at the same times each day. Follow a consistent daily routine.
4. Use Simple Communication: Use the same words, signs, or pictures for each toilet step.
5. Keep Trying: It takes about 3 weeks to form a habit. Stay consistent and patient.
6. Create a Visual Schedule: Make a picture schedule showing each toilet step. Use images of the toilet, toilet paper, and other steps.
7. Identify Rewards: Choose small rewards for using the toilet. Use favorite foods or toys.
Activity for kids with special need
During preschool, kids experience structured time together that is both fun and educational. They learn how to bond with their peers, follow directions and stick to a schedule; all skills that prepare them for school. For children with special needs, there are certain pre-school activities that work particularly well to keep them engaged, focused and actively learning.
